Counselling for young people
The pandemic has placed huge pressures on young people (and their parents/carers) which may have had a detrimental effect on their mental health.
The impact of home learning, loss of contact with friends, exam stress and fear of infection etc can lead to increased anxiety and affect their confidence. Whilst schools and local services, such as CAMHS, can offer support, this can be difficult to access with lengthy wait lists.
I have many years’ experience as a school counsellor, having worked in a number of local secondary schools helping young people explore areas such as family and friendship issues, bereavement, bullying, exam stress, gender identity, self-harm, low mood and anxiety. Sometimes young people feel unable to open up to those closest to them.
Speaking to an independent person can be of real benefit, allowing them to talk openly about what is of concern to them.
